The Champagne bar, “Pariscope,” embodies the essence of French picnic culture, using reflectivity and transparency to blend seamlessly into the context of the city's riverside. A large reflective panel is strategically placed at the visual focal point, capturing and reflecting the cityscape of Paris as a method of embellishment and engagement with the surroundings. The varying perspectives of each individual, shaped by their occupied space, allow users to actively participate in the urban experience by controlling what views they perceive.
Meanwhile, passersby on the bridge can simultaneously observe a top-down view of the Champagne bar. Major supports positioned at each of the four corners ensure high transparency, creating a column-free space that opens up to the waterfront. This open, free-flowing, and ambiguous boundary between the edge of the riverside walk and the building surface presents the Champagne bar as an accessible and interactive “open public space.”
